Wedding Receptions I meet many darling brides and grooms at Bridal Fairs...all shopping around trying to decide what matters the most to them and where to spend their precious wedding budget dollars. Most brides and grooms have budgeted for the basics...a reception venue, food, cake, photography and bridal attire, but many have not thought about how music will be involved in one of the most important days of their lives! It tends to be one of the last decisions they make, and their options are often limited to what's left in their budget after considering everything else. Here's my advice in selecting the reception and music plans that best suit your personalities and circumstances. Music Makes a Difference
First...a little theory. No matter where you go in a public setting...you will (almost always) hear music...the grocery store, restaurants, sporting events, the dentist's office, church, while waiting in any line...and there's a reason for that! Music sets a tone and creates an atmosphere and ambiance. It entertains, illicits emotions and creates memories. And you will always find music at special events! That's because music effects people lives and the experiences they have! The right music can make all the difference in an event...just as the wrong music can totally destroy all the time, preparation, money and effort spent to make an event perfect. So the best advice I can give you is...pick your musical options provider as carefully as you do all the other important elements of your reception! And make sure you select someone works well your personalities and listens to your personal preference! Reception Types There are basically two types of wedding receptions. I call the first one the "traditional" plan...people stop by, drop off their gift, wish you well, eat refreshments and head off to the next event in their lives. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this type of reception. In fact, it's the perfect plan when your venue doesn't accommodate large numbers all at once and you need to move your guests through the process fairly quickly. Or when you are not interested in or have time for more interactive reception elements. Background music is a great option for this reception type. As a skilled DJ, I can help you select pre-recorded music in styles and selections that reflect your personalities and help create the perfect ambiance you desire. Or you may be interested in the unique and entertaining option for your guests that my "hubby" and I provide...professional live vocal background entertainment. Your guests will love this option...very romantic!
I call the second type of reception plan "interactive" where the goal of the bride and groom is for their guest to be more actively involved in their wedding celebration. This reception type is generally longer in duration and may include several wedding elements such as a dinner, speeches or toasting, transitions (cutting of the cake, bouquet, garter) and dancing. This is a great option when you have lots of family, friends and out-of-town guests who will be with you the majority of the evening...they can only eat so much cake and visit so long before they're completely bored. Don't let this option scare you if you're not dancers yourselves. I have some great options that will make it comfortable for the bride and groom who recognize how much their guests would enjoy dancing, when the bride and groom don't necessarily like to dance. Consider adding live vocal entertainment at the first of your reception during a line or the bride and groom's mingling with guests or dinner and then using DJ services for your transitions (cake, bouquet toss, garter, etc.) and dancing to provide an evening of variety and a memorable reception that your guests will remember for years to come!
